Dating Teenagers

Dating via the Internet is a minefield. It’s not something that I’ve ever done, but the potential for problems is evident even to a non-user like me. The Internet allows you to pretend to be someone you’re not, if you’re so minded, so selecting a partner via the medium of the web is asking for trouble unless you are totally aware of all the risks before you start.

Profile pictures can be Photoshoped, or even plain fake, personal details just a fabrication, so until you make the decision to meet up with the person you’ve taken a shine to it’s impossible to say exactly who they are. That’s not to say that everyone has that experience, I’m sure they don’t and that most people get a great deal of enjoyment and satisfaction from dating and social networking sites aimed at singles. However the fact is that there are predators out there and they do seek out the vulnerable, the gullible and the naïve.

So, why is it that some bloody fool decided it would be a good idea to set up a dating site for teenagers – i.e. under 18s. It’s asking for trouble. The girls on the site are posing in their underwear in an effort to be the most popular and get onto the front page. So who do you think that’s going to attract? Young boys certainly, but also the sort of perverts that love the opportunity to take advantage of a young girl who is perhaps a little too eager for attention.

Teenagers are still children, but developing fast – so their emotions and hormones are in turmoil. I don’t believe in a nanny state, far from it, but some things just have “BAD IDEA” written all over them. And this is one of them.

The site is called MyLOL.net, I’m not linking to it on principle, but you can read about it here.
