Concertina, Naughty Indulgences Of the In-Out Kind

Concertina, Susan WinemakerWhen I checked out the books in search of my next read, I was really looking to purchase Madame Cynthia Payne’s autobiography. I thought reading about the goings on in her London brothel/home would be a really good read. She entertained some of the most respected and powerful people in Britain in her den of ill repute.

But sadly I was informed that the book was now out of print and I may be able to get an old copy if I looked on the Internet.

Instead I decided to select something else to read during my lunch breaks at work. Don’t ask me why I decided to read Concertina the life and loves of a dominatrix. And what a good choice I made, Susan has a writing style which envelopes you takes you right in to the story unlike some I have read which give me the jitters and leave you slightly at arms length.

Given that my last autobiography was Clarissa Dickson-Wright I just knew this would be like a breath of fresh air.

Just to give you some background, Susan or should I say Concertina originates from Canada and comes over to London, England to work in the kitchens and utilise her culinary skills. Quite by chance she is enticed in to the world of professional domination and studies the subject thoroughly, eventually being taken under the tutelage of a practicing madam.

The story just hooks you right from the start and is written via one of her client’s sessions, which is interspersed with the “how I got here story line and beyond”. I found the book compelling and had to force myself back to work at times.

If you are expecting a deeply and descriptive anecdotal read then you will not find this here, although she does allude to the various acts carried out upon her clients there isn’t too much extreme writing. I found the balance just right, enough to give you a taste of the kind of acts that some of her clients preferred.

Without giving too much away there is a love interest in the book which doesn’t quite turn out as she might have hoped but I’m not going to say anymore than that.

The ending was slightly abrupt, I suppose I was expecting a conclusion of sorts but I suppose you only really get that in novels, not true-life tales. I did feel that Susan may have left the book deliberately open so that she can write a follow-up.

If she does I will be straight to the bookstore for a copy. Give the book a try, you don’t have to be in to BDSM to enjoy and learn from the adventure she takes.
