Hidden Talents

You think you know someone and then they go and surprise you when you least expect it. That happened to me last week. One of the female members of staff at one of my clients revealed a talent that I never suspected she had.

You can stop that train of thought right there. Bad, bad people.

Turns out she’s an aspiring illustrator and a good one at that. I’ve worked with her for a year and she never even alluded to it. The only reason I found out is that she brought in a few pieces of her work to show the rest of the office last Friday. It was her last day in the job, now having moved on to pastures new.

Do any of you have any hidden talents, something that you don’t tend to reveal to friends, colleagues or even family?

  1. Don’t know how talented i am but i paint and have the canvas’ up at home. If people comment i don’t admit to having been the artist. Don’t know why. Shyness maybe. x

  2. I’ve found, over the last few years, that I’m really good at troubleshooting. The co-workers I’ve had have found it freaky on occasion, but I can zone in on trouble areas, and most times I’ve been right (with measures being taken to rectify things, without the thank you mind you). But they’re office related things, things that I’m not really into that much, and I think that I can zone in on the issues because I’m not really fond of office environments to begin with (LOL).

One example, in the last company I was with, involved the development of a publishing/printing schedule for books, only because I got sick and tired of listening to angry booksellers and ‘end users’ (calling in to complain that they’ve been waiting for particular books), but I have to say, that although I see the issues, I’ve never been the diplomatic type, it’s been more like, ‘how long does it take to develop a, b and c? When are you going to get your finger out?’
