I suppose the title should be “Wot no panties!”. I don’t listen to the radio in my car anymore as the volume control is broken and at random points just turns itself down to zero. I don’t want to spend money on a new one, it’s more than the car’s worth, so I’m making do with a cheep MP3 player or the sound of my own thoughts. This means that I don’t get to hear much radio at all these days.<\/p>\n
However, when I was listening to Radio 1, the Scott Mills show to be exact I was struct by his strange aversion to the word “Panties”. Wy panties I hear you ask. Well, I honestly don’t know. But whenever anyone mentions the word he cringes. He may have been exaggerating the reaction for the show but he seemed to be genuinely averse to the word itself.<\/p>\n
As there’s a word to describe pretty much everything I thought I’d look it up but while I found “Vestiphobia”, which is a fear of clothing, I couldn’t find anything closer. Sadly Pantophobia is the not the fear of pants, but the fear of everything.<\/p>\n
In my search I did find two great phobias though; Logophobia AKA Verbophobia – the fear of words. But best of all Sesquipedalophobia AKA Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia – the fear of long words.<\/p>\n
Ah! I like the irony of the last one.<\/p>\n
