{"id":18771,"date":"2013-05-21T12:18:24","date_gmt":"2013-05-21T12:18:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/alexsuze.com\/?p=18771"},"modified":"2013-05-21T12:18:24","modified_gmt":"2013-05-21T12:18:24","slug":"zoo-keeper-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alexsuze.com\/?p=18771","title":{"rendered":"Zoo Keeper Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-18772\" alt=\"Elephant Begging\" src=\"http:\/\/alexsuze.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/elephant-begging.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alexsuze.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/elephant-begging.jpg 400w, https:\/\/alexsuze.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/elephant-begging-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/>Sorry there\u2019s no sex in this post you\u2019ll have to scroll down the page for that.\u00a0 Lol<\/p>\n<p>I was rather glad that I had selected to take my Zoo Keeper Day a few weeks ago\u00a0the\u00a0both the\u00a0Monday and Tuesday were the hottest we\u2019ve had so far.<\/p>\n<p>We set off on the Monday morning to our destination hotel on the outskirts of Twycross, about 20 minutes drive from the zoo itself.\u00a0 This meant that we would arrive bright eyed and bushytailed the following morning for my full itinerary.<\/p>\n<p>My day duly started at 9am on Tuesday morning and I was lead to the changing rooms where I had to don a full set of navy coloured overalls emblazoned with Twycross Zoo Keeper on the back.<\/p>\n<p>I slipped them on over my trousers and t-shirt and applied my newly bought cap to my head.\u00a0 It was going to be a hot one.\u00a0 Not the kind of day you would wish to wear a double layer of clothing.\u00a0 Sigh!\u00a0 I was taken through the briefest Health &amp; Safety introduction which basically comprised of \u201cDo exactly what the keeper asks at all times\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>And away I went.<\/p>\n<p>My first keeper was in charge of the Primates and I was taken to a couple of adjoining indoor compounds.\u00a0 This is where the animals ate and bedded down for the night.\u00a0 I was instructed to wash down the shelves, climbing equipment and window with disinfectant.<\/p>\n<p>Great I thought!\u00a0 I hope that this isn\u2019t a prelude to my day\u2019s activities.\u00a0 As it happened it wasn\u2019t, it was the only cleaning gig I had all day and was there to show you animal husbandry isn\u2019t just about the good stuff.<\/p>\n<p>After leaving the compounds clean, smelling fresh and with a couple of scoops of an appetising mash we made our way to handover for the next leg of my animal explorations.<\/p>\n<p>The Hooves &amp; Carnivore section but not in the same enclosure.\u00a0 Lol<\/p>\n<p>I was taken by the keeper to feed the Camels.\u00a0 He wound down the hay mangers on the wall and we replenished them before letting the dreadlock shedding animals back in.\u00a0 They really didn\u2019t look at their best with large clods of fur hanging from them.<\/p>\n<p>Next I was taken to the compound of one of the animals I had been most looking forward to seeing\u2026<\/p>\n<p>And I\u2019ll tell you all about it soon.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sorry there\u2019s no sex in this post you\u2019ll have to scroll down the page for that.\u00a0 Lol I was rather glad that I had selected to take my Zoo Keeper &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/alexsuze.com\/?p=18771\" class=\"more-link\">Read More<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[3],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/alexsuze.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/18771"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/alexsuze.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/alexsuze.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/alexsuze.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/alexsuze.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=18771"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/alexsuze.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/18771\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":18775,"href":"https:\/\/alexsuze.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/18771\/revisions\/18775"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/alexsuze.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=18771"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/alexsuze.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=18771"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/alexsuze.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=18771"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
