As with most things involving an annual event that is connected to sending card it\u2019s been hijacked by the greeting card big boys. But leaving this commercialism out of the equation what does the 14<sup>th<\/sup> Feb mean to you?<\/p>\n<p>Like most people it probably combines a mixture of thoughts and emotions from the romantic and deeply loving to the lustful and down right debauched. While originated from the celebration of a Saint\u2019s day in the last 150 years or so it\u2019s origins are easily traced to the Roman fertility festival of Lupercalia some would dispute this direct link. Frankly it doesn\u2019t matter as the motivation for most springtime festivals in all cultures has been to celebrate rebirth, fertility and therefore lust \u2013 whatever the prevailing social and religious restrictions of the age might suggest.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s therefore lust and sex that underlies Valentine\u2019s day, even if we wish to add other meanings and significance to the to the day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What does Valentine\u2019s Day mean to you?
