If you don’t know the song just be thankful of that fact and don’t Google it to find out what I’m talking about.<\/p>\n

We all wear a mask of our own creation and when it comes to interacting with the opposite sex hat can sometimes be the only way to pluck up enough courage to actually make a move in the first place. The French would call it camoufler, to deceive, the Italians camuffare, the Russians Maskirovka.<\/p>\n

Now I for one have never exactly lied to make someone think better of me and therefore kiss, fondle or fuck me, but I’ve occasionally been economical with the truth or selective about what facts I reveal about myself.<\/p>\n

Is wearing a mask such a bad thing, after all courtship is a game in itself and perhaps your prospective partner would like to play the game as much as you? So long as you come clean at some point is there a problem.<\/p>\n

The impish side of me says no, go ahead, pretend to be the airline pilot, big-shot entrepreneur. But I think this is just because I’ve never tried it to that extent. I’ve never claimed to be something I’m not and therefore to do so would be one of that decreasing number of experiences I’ve never had.<\/p>\n

The common sense, moral and logical side of me says that to begin a relationship with a conscious deceit is to doom it from the start. Even if you offer up the truth voluntarily at some point in the relationship there will always be a doubt in your partner’s mind that you’ve been utterly honest about the rest of your life, or that you’ll not lie to them in the future.<\/p>\n

Deceit is deceit in any language.<\/p>\n

Is that me being too straight-laced? Does anyone out there regularly construct a personality specifically for the benefit of their love life\/relationships?<\/p>\n
