Britain is very uptight when it comes to advertising campaigns for certain subjects which are often taboo due to culture, upbringing or religious beliefs. Recently Women’s Aid tried to raise awareness of domestic violence by running a hard hitting video to demonstrate the problem (below). They were told they had to cut key scenes from the infomercial because they were too distressing.
Now pardon me but isn’t that the function of such campaigns, to cause a reaction which will make you sit up and take notice.

I’m not sure why the censors decided that we all need wrapping up in cotton wool but it is like retailing a porn DVD with all the sex cut out of it.
Now the Belgians have it just right with their campaign for organ donation check out the advert at the top of this post. It reads “Becoming a donor is probably your only chance to get inside her.” Check out their site here and if you can’t read Dutch run it through Babel Fish. The Belgians know exactly how to get attention to their ads use sex, it is the universal attractant. We can take a leaf out of their book but somehow I don’t think that is likely to happen.
