Sex Doesn’t Fit In Boxes Because People Don’t

It’s very easy to put people into boxes. Really, it is, they struggle a little but if you use chloroform … LOL, couldn’t resist that.

What I’m talking about are the inaccurate and ludicrous labels, behavioural patterns and physical attributes that human beings find it so easy to attach to those outside their own social group or geographic location. It’s all too easy to base your views on anecdotal evidence, or “well known facts”.

I think we’ve all done it in the past, to a greater or lesser extend. While I’m very much against political correctness gone mad, I’m also a believer in trying to take people as you find them and judging others by their actions not where they come from or their race.

Let me give you a few examples from a British perspective. Or perhaps the British perspective of a generation ago.

The French were regarded as great lovers, but arrogant.

Germans were efficient, boring and authoritarian.

Australians don’t do foreplay,.

Americans are smooth, untrustworthy and lacking in commitment.

While all of the above might be true of some of their respective nations’ inhabitants to actually believe that any of them are generally accurate in describing a nationality is like saying that all English men wear bowler hats, all Scots play the bagpipes and all Welshmen sing in male voice choirs. Outside the realm of the old-fashioned stand-up comedian’s joke book that sort of wild unsubstantiated assertion can be quite offensive.

It would be interesting to hear what other nationalities think of us here in the UK, and if you want to get more specific to know what you all perceive about the English.
