Just a Quickie
I was thinking about something that I first discovered when I was a kid. I’ve always been fascinated by Britain’s history, particularly the period from the Neolithic to the iron age. One rather unusual site which is the subject of some debate as to it age and therefore inclusion into my particular period of interest is the Cern Abbas Giant .
Now I thought, would Microsoft feature this site on their aerial photographs in local.live.com? You betcha!. Click here to see for yourself.

I couldn’t get it to load for me but…HAPPY SAINT PATRICKS DAY!!!
You are so damn lucky I am not there. I might come swaggaring in and molest you dear. Just sayin’ 😉
I had never heard of this! It’s amazing. The green giant isn’t that recent then hehe
I vaguely remember this one…I think my history teacher glossed over it, or showed us the head not the lower half, when I was in high school.
The bit about it being a graffiti done by monks (making fun of another guy) had me thinking, because it’s a possible theory; they didn’t have spray cans back then, and graffiti took on more interesting forms.
Certainly more interesting than crop circles (and all the alien BS theories).
There are all sorts of theories about this being cut out of the turf by Roman soldiers and the medieval origin possibility. They’ve tried geophysics, radio carbon and pollen analysis to discover the actual age but all of the chalk figures are almost impossible to date. The only one that can be accurately placed in the Iron Age is the horse at Uffington, and that’s ‘cos it appears on coinage during the Roman occupation.
We actually visited that one. Ended up with the tread of my hiking boots full of sheep shit as I recall, there’s a hill fort on the top of the hill into which that horse is cut.
I wonder if my lawnguy could mow one of them there giants in my lawn. Sitting out back on my deck may have just gotten a little sweeter. LOL
Good to see that old friend and one-time near neighbour the Cerne Abbas Giant again. Local legend has it that if you are having problems conceiving then a good night’s sleep out on the Giant’s phallus will get you sorted.
