Pre Teen Sex
I must admit when I read the story in the Mail about Switzerland producing condoms for boys as young as 12 I was a little bit shocked and felt myself reaching for my soapbox. Then I thought about it, how hypercritical that attitude is following the story I covered the other day.
The Family Education Trust’s attitude to the showing of condom advertisements pre watershed in the UK was negative with the urge to go back to old fashioned no sex before marriage ideals.
I was incensed when I read the story you can read it here but for some reason the idea of providing condoms to what is essentially a child doesn’t sit well with me. Which is silly really because I’m a firm believer in taking protective measures to avoid both sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies.
You can read the full story here.
This certainly made me think, how about you?
Hi Suze, It’s nice to be back here on ABH and your blog! Its a difficult one. Here the age for first time sex is really low, about 14 on average, so 12 for some is not too early. Also the provision of a condom (Alas for us males) does not guarantee or even increase the chance of sexual intercourse! What can we do. Its difficult enough, with under-age sex being technically illegal and that means that under 16’s can be prosecuted for under-age sex offences, when they are underage themselves, creating severe problems later as adults, with that on record. Being practical and dealing with an issue is always preferable to “just Saying NO’, especially to an age-group who typically want to rebel. On a slightly different issue. I had some writing deleted from a site, because I had described my own early sexual life (7-10 years), first experiences etc. Apparrently due to innapropriate depiction of minors??? If we cant even talk about our own experiences pre-legal age, what hope do we have?
